Just wondering... have any preppers who come here read the book "Patriots" by James Wesley Rawles? I got to wondering about it last night, and looked it up on Amazon.com (http://www.amazon.com/Patriots-Novel-Survival-Coming-Collapse/dp/156975599X/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1243346987&sr=1-1).
I can't afford it right now because of some major upheaval in our lives, but thought I'd look at the comments to see if reading it is even worth it. The majority of the responses were very positive, but there are some that say that while it's a great survival-prep how-to manual, the story is lacking on the novel aspect. The characters aren't very well developed, etc.
Just wondering what my readers here think?
And... if you read that, do you generally read any pieces of fiction/novels that deals with prepping, end of the world, schumer-hits-the-fan, etc.?

Bullseye from KPN and Codename Bullseye has been reading the book, he said it was great. Something I need to pick up.

Sorry, I haven't read the book, so can't comment specifically. I prefer to get my "how to" info from a source that doesn't ask me to suspend my disbelief, as does fiction. Don't get me wrong. I love a good story, including plenty in the sci fi genre, since they're great for conveying concepts or big ideas.

I have read the book and thought it was very eye-opening. I had my husband read it also. He was the one with "rose-colored" glasses and thought this is the United States...nothing is going to happen like that here. After reading the book he now knows in his heart it can and probably will happen. At least he doesn't think anything about me going to the store and coming home with $250.00 in groceries for two people! We are preparing for the worse and hoping for the best. GRITS
I've read the book and passed it on to several other people. For the seasoned prepper it might not be all that eye opening, but to the non prepper or the newbe it is essential. I call it a prepping manual disguised as a novel.
As a novel it is not bad either. I've read worse! It was actually enjoyable. You should definitely read it.
There is a thread about the book at the American Prepper forums.
